“I Promise”

I promise I will always love you…
I promise I will be there when you need me…
I promise I will never let you go…

But, where were you when I needed you to talk to and give me comfort? You were nowhere to be found. So why do you give me this false hope? “A promise is a comfort to a fool,” a promise soothes the soul and leaves people hoping that the person will come through; but, when this person fails to keep their word, the individual is left devastated.
So many times we use the phrase “I promise,” knowing that we will not keep that promise. Instead of spreading false hope and lying to each other, instead let us be true to ourselves and to others by simple saying “I will try…”

The biggest lie you can tell someone you love is that you promise, knowing you are not able to keep the promise.
